Another Update

Sorry I haven't been updating this blog as much as I would like, I've just been getting busy and haven't found a lot of time to post on here! Sorry! School is going well and meeting people is always interesting! I have met an interesting collection of characters thus far and all of them are very sweet!

A little about UCD

This semester, as all of you probably know, I am attending University College Dublin (UCD). Compared to AU, this place is HUGE and most of the buildings look exactly the same! Below is a map, and I know you can't see what the heck is what...that's all they gave me...

So yeah, there's the map....right.

Some little facts about UCD:
  • UCD was established in 1854
  • During the 1960s and 1970s, UCD moved from St Stephen's Green in Dublin city center, where it was first established, to the Belfield campus 4 km from the city center
  • The origins of University College Dublin date back to the Catholic University of Ireland (YAY CATHOLICS)
  • Among the professors during this phase of UCD’s history was the poet Gerard Manley Hopkins and amongst its most famous pupils was the writer James Joyce (PRETTY COOL)
So there ya go, a little bit about where I will be until May!

Blog post for 1/10/11

So I am FINALLY on the plane to Paris! It has been an exhausting trip but something really cool happened! Through this whole journey, I have met some really cool people in the airport and it’s been kinda fun, for a situation that I would NEVER wish on anyone!
Also, when I went back to the airport after spending the night in Minneapolis, my mom and I were eating at Chili’s and I got to meet Lee Greenwood and his wife! For those that don’t know, Lee Greenwood wrote the song “God Bless the USA”! I love that song and it was SUCH a cool thing to meet him! He and his wife were probably the chillest people ever and I didn’t even know it was he until he offered to sign a picture for me and told us who he was! It was SOOO cool and such an uplifting situation!
I have leaned from this experience that no matter how dark and dismal a situation can be, there is always a ray of sunshine, if you are willing to search, and sometimes search hard, to find it!

Story of the day: Delays

So, my trip has not been going as well as I would like, to say the least....

Originally, I was supposed to leave Monday the 10th and go to Atlanta then Atlanta straight to Dublin and get there the

Well, yesterday, my mom checked the flight info and the flight Monday was cancelled due to weather. So my mom and I the 9th and were hopefully going to catch a flight to Paris then a flight from Paris to Dublin...not so much.

We got to Minneapolis just fine and we were waiting for our flight to Paris and the flight got delayed an hour for mechanical delays which was no big deal, but after 4 hours of delays I was getting pretty sick and of the Minneapolis airport...

So at about 6pm-ish, they cancelled the flight until tomorrow (the original day I was supposed to leave) at 2:30pm! The airlines put us up in a hotel which was nice, but during this whole process, my mom and I overheard someone say that the "mechanical problem" was that there were holes in the tail of the plane!!!  Let me pose this question: HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN!!

Anyway, I'll keep you posted!

Packing!

So, I am finally getting packed for my trip abroad and it is so time consuming! It's hard to think of what you will ever need in the next 6 months!  Any ideas to make the time go by faster would be very very appreciated!
